On Wednesday night, the Vancouver Canucks hosted the Arizona Coyotes for potentially the final time ahead of their likely move to Salt Lake City, Utah next season. The Canucks were down 2-1 after the second period, but came back to tie things up at 3-3, forcing overtime.
Arizona would go on to win the game in overtime thanks to Dylan Guenther, who had a four-point night, and despite the loss, Quinn Hughes put himself into elite company once again, joining Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque this time.
According to Sportsnet Stats, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes is only the third defenceman in National Hockey League history to record nine or more three-assists games in a single season. Bobby Orr accomplished that feat four times during his career, while Ray Bourque did it once, during the 1993-94 season.
Hughes, 24, is having the best season of his young NHL career thus far. In 79 games this season, Hughes has put up 91 points (17 goals, 74 assists), 38 penalty minutes is a plus-40.
With reaching the 90-point mark last night too, Hughes is only the third defenceman in over 30 years to reach that plateau, joining Erik Karlsson, who had 101 during the 2022-23 campaign and Roman Josi, who put up 96 in 2021-22.
Do you think Quinn Hughes will reach the 95-point mark this season? He needs four points in the final three regular season games to hit that plateau. Let us know what you think in the poll below.
