In a strange turn of events, Quinn Hughes has remained in Vancouver on Tuesday despite a report that he's heading to Boston for the 4 Nations Face-Off Final.
Quinn Hughes remains in Vancouver despite report he's joining Team USA
The Vancouver Canucks hit the ice at Rogers Arena on Tuesday afternoon and to everyone's surprise, Quinn Hughes was there and was sporting a non-contact jersey.
"Quinn Hughes sighting at #Canucks practice" Jeff Paterson said.
Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared an update on social media saying that Hughes is expected to remain in Vancouver and won't be travelling to Boston unless there's realistic chance he'll play in Thursday's championship game against Canada.
"Quinn Hughes is at Canucks practice.
Will see how this turns out, but Hughes will not join USA unless there's a realistic chance he can play.
Canucks' first game is Saturday in Vegas - doesn't make sense for him to go Vancouver-Boston-Vegas if he can't play Thursday." Friedman said.
Quinn Hughes spoke with reporters after the Canucks' practice today, expressing his desire to join Team USA for the championship game, but with the Americans still having six healthy defensemen on their roster, it changes things a bit for him right now.
"I really want to" Hughes said according to Thomas Drace of The Athletic.
He added, "They still have their six D, so that changes my situation a little bit."
We'll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings for the United States and if a new injury or illness pops up, but for now, it looks like Quinn Hughes will remain in Vancouver with the Canucks to prepare for Saturday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights.
