When meeting with the media on Sunday, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet announced that 23-year-old goaltender Arturs Silovs will get the start in net today against the Anaheim Ducks. It will be Silovs' first appearance of the 2023-24 season in the NHL with Vancouver after playing in five games last year.
The Riga, Latvia native has played quite well in the American Hockey League with the Abbotsford Canucks this season. In 33 games, Silovs has a record of 15-11-6 with a 2.74 goals against average, a .907 save percentage and four shutouts. He was called up to the Canucks earlier this month due to the injury to Thatcher Demko.
With the Canucks playing a back-to-back this week on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Golden Knights and Coyotes, Silovs is expected to appear in the latter of the two contests vs Arizona, with Casey DeSmith lined up to face Vegas.
Sunday's contest will mark the final game of the Canucks' nine-game homestand before they head out on the road for three against Vegas, Arizona and Los Angeles. Puck drop for this afternoon's game against the Anaheim Ducks is set for 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet Pacific across Canada.
