Teams Say Vancouver Canucks' Asking Price for J.T. Miller & Elias Pettersson is Too High
As teams around the National Hockey League continue to look at the trade market for upgrades, J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson's names remain as top options for contenders.
Asking price for J.T. Miller & Elias Pettersson reportedly too high
Aside from a couple of close calls in the last two weeks that would've sent J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers and Elias Pettersson to the Carolina Hurricanes, trade talks have been pretty quiet recently for the Vancouver Canucks.
It appears the reason for that is the high asking price on J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, who added that teams are waiting for that price to come down a bit.
"What I'm sensing around the market, whether it's Miller or Pettersson, is that teams are willing to see if the Canucks are willing to bring their asking price down on either player before they engage more fully." LeBrun said on Thursday's edition of Insider Trading.
On the Elias Pettersson front, LeBrun mentions that the Columbus Blue Jackets have begun preliminary discussions on a trade with the Vancouver Canucks for him, with the Buffalo Sabres also in the mix.
"So as the Canucks make their rounds talking to teams on both J.T. Miller, and Pettersson, the conversation with the Blue Jackets is on Pettersson." LeBrun said.
He added, "We'll see if preliminary discussions, which have begun very recently, can go to the next level. But I think Columbus has the same questions every other team is asking about Pettersson, including a team like the Buffalo Sabres."
It's unclear what the asking price is for either J.T. Miller or Elias Pettersson, but as teams around the league say, it's high, which makes sense given what both players are capable of.
The asking price for Elias Pettersson is likely higher than J.T. Miller given his age and that he's in his prime right now, while the latter might have a couple of good seasons left before he starts to regress.
We'll wait and see where things go over the coming weeks, but it won't be a shock to anyone if both Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller are dealt by Patrik Allvin before Friday, March 7th.
