Surprising Development in Quinn Hughes Not Resigning with the Vancouver Canucks Per Jim Rutherford
With the ongoing issues that the Vancouver Canucks are facing, Quinn Highes has been the only light that is keeping the season bright, but a recent report could change all of that.
Quinn Hughes May Not Resign with the Vancouver Canucks If a Rebuild Happens
Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford told the media that it is unlikely that Hughes will stay a member of the Canucks amid a rebuild.
"If we're going to completely start over that means he goes. And we'd like to figure out a way that he's here forever,» Rutherford said of the Canucks' captain, who leads the team in points by a wide margin. Hughes has been otherworldly once again this season, and finds himself at the front of the Norris Trophy conversation and firmly in the NHL's Hart Trophy conversation as well, despite all the noise." - Jim Rutherford
Obviously, there is still a lot of time before Quinn Hughes' contract expires after the 2027 NHL season.
Although there is time, it opens the door for the Vancouver Canucks to enter a full rebuild if they can't make a sufficient run for the Stanly Cup until then.
If these efforts fall short and Vancouver continues to struggle, the likelihood of Hughes reconsidering his future with the franchise will only increase. - James Wilson
Another factor at play is that if both Miller and
Elias Pettersson are moved either this year or in the offseason, it will be clear that General Manager Patrik Allvin and Rutherford's choice to overhaul the team is in effect.
Ideally, only one of Pettersson or Miller is traded amid the drama, but a lot of sources have pointed to both of them being shipped out.
