The hate is at its highest around the Canucks as the team is setting up shop in Penticton to kick things off with their training camp. Patrik Allvin confirmed that four Canucks wouldn't be taking part in the opening day's activities and it was announced that Demko would be addressing his injury situation during a press conference.
Although no timeline has been set for his return, the netminder delivered updates that were mainly positives hinting that he'd been making steady progress and that he was finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, he confirmed a rumour that had been circulating for some time.
Elliotte Friedman speculated that the goaltending community believed that Thatcher Demko had undergone surgery over the summer, unrelated to his current injury. During his press conference, the netminder confirmed that he had gone to the doctor but added that it was no longer an area of concern.
It's been a strict sequence of events for the Canucks' 35; he led the team to a strong playoff push last year but was unable to carry them through. He openly admitted that this was one of his career's lowest points; it's got to be hard sitting on the sideline, powerless, when you know your team needs you.
On the plus side, Demko seemed confident and poised when speaking about his injury, suggesting that he believes he'll be back at 100% sooner rather than later. Until then, let's hope for some Arturs Silovs' magic.
