Thatcher Demko's Highly Anticipated Return to the Vancouver Canucks Updated by NHL Insider
In parts of great goaltending form Kevin Lankinen, and depth players stepping up with the amount of absences the Canucks face, the team still manages to get wins without Thatcher Demko.
Although not necessary, Canucks fans still want to see their Vezina caliber goalie back in action sooner rather than later.
The metrics of the teams overall goaltending does not accurately display how good Lankinen has been.
Following Saturday's slate of action, the Canucks are only ranked 23rd in average goals allowed per game and a lowly 24th in team save percentage.
The good news is, Demko is making significant progress in his recovery with a rare knee condition.
In the last 10 days or so, he has been participating in team practices and was also confirmed that he joined the team on their current 6-game road trip.
Elliotte Friedman comments on when he thinks Thatcher Demko will return to the Vancouver Canucks
With Thatcher Demko speaking to the media for the first time in months, it has gotten fans excited that he could make his first start with the team on this road trip.
"It's still a lot of work to do, I think, but I feel really good. That's that's the best I've felt in seven, eight months,» explained Demko. Finally have a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel and have a lot of direction in what we're trying to accomplish."
Unlike most rumors, Elliotte Friedman has another point of view, as he speculates that due to their issues of getting wins at home, they may want to start him when they return.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, during the Saturday Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. As per Sportsnet, he said: "The biggest question for the Canucks is, do they want to start him for his first game at home? With everything they have there, would it be more comfortable for them to start him there?"
While the team, nor Demko has set a specific date of his return, the Canucks are still being cautious about not setting him back before back this close to his return.
But if his injury is not holding him back, they should not wait until they return home on December 6th.
Already over 20 games into the season, he needs to get as many reps in now before the games really start to matter.
