Elias Pettersson's contract has been a topic of discussion all season, especially with his production since the puck dropped in October, but not everyone is against the deal he currently has.

There's no question it's been a tough season for Elias Pettersson from dealing with trade rumors to a reported rift with former teammate J.T. Miller and his production hasn't been what the Canucks were hoping for.

The Athletic make bold claim regarding Elias Pettersson's contract

Following the announcement last week that the NHL's salary cap will jump by $25 million USD over the next three seasons, The Athletic has decided to take a look at some current contract, as well as future ones, to see how they'll hold up.
Dom Luszczyszyn of The Athletic shared that his model still has Elias Pettersson valued at $12 million USD for the next seven seasons, despite his play this season and that there's still tremendous upside here for the Swedish forward and the Vancouver Canucks.
"3. Elias Pettersson is still worth the money

Last note on future market values.

For those wondering, forward Elias Pettersson's average market value over the next seven years is still $12 million - even with the model downgrading him during his current slump. The upside there is still tremendous and the Canucks front office would be out of its mind to give up on him one season into his eight-year deal. There's a good reason why a kettle of vultures is circling above Vancouver." Luszczyszyn said.

Dating back to February 1st, 2024, including the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Elias Pettersson has only scored 19 goals, which simply isn't good enough for someone in a role that the Swedish forward plays, along with the salary he's earning.
Elias Pettersson knows that he has to be better, the coaching staff knows it and the management group does as well and hopefully for everyone, the 26-year-old can turn things around soon and play a big role down the stretch as the Vancouver Canucks push for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
