Last week, Harman Dayal and Thomas Drance of The Athletic collaborated for a pair of articles that ranked the top-ten prospects in the Vancouver Canucks' system.
In their articles, the duo left out names such as Josh Bloom, who is fresh off of winning the Memorial Cup with the Saginaw Spirit, as well as a couple of other OHLers - Kirill Kudryavtsev (Soo Greyhounds) & Vilmer Alriksson (Guelph Storm). It's understandable as to why Alriksson and Kudryavtsev were left off their rankings, but it's a bit of a shock that Josh Bloom wasn't included.
Now, this could also be a good thing, meaning that the quality of prospects in the Canucks' system allows for someone like Josh Bloom to be left off or maybe Dayal and Drance don't believe that he's a top-ten prospect for the Canucks. Either way, next season is going to be big for Bloom's development.
Let's take a look at Dayal and Drance's top-ten Vancouver Canucks prospects:
10. Nikita Tolopilo (Abbotsford Canucks - AHL)
9. Max Sasson (Abbotsford Canucks - AHL)
8. Cole McWard (Abbotsford Canucks - AHL)
7. Arshdeep Bains (Abbotsford Canucks - AHL)
6. Sawyer Mynio (Seattle Thunderbirds - WHL)
5. Aatu Raty (Abbotsford Canucks - AHL)
4. Elias Pettersson (Vasteras IK - HockeyAllsvenskan)
3. Tom Willander (Boston University - NCAA)
2. Arturs Silovs (Vancouver Canucks - NHL)
1. Jonathan Lekkerimaki (Orebro HK - SHL)
As the Vancouver Canucks prepare to potentially move on from some free agents in the coming weeks, the team is hopeful that there could be a prospect or two that's ready to make the jump and become a full-time NHLer.
