The reason for Oliver Ekman-Larsson's failure in Vancouver revealed?
Patrik Allvin made a bold move over the summer by buying out the expensive contract of veteran defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
The Swede then signed a contract with the Florida Panthers. OEL found his stride under Paul Maurice and the Panthers' staff, played a crucial part of his team's success and helped them through the playoffs. The Swede is now preparing to make his first Stanley Cup Playoff appearance, meeting with Connor McDavid and his Oilers.
Ed Jovanovski, the former Canucks captain, was on Donnie and Dhali and addressed OEL's emergence under Florida's sun. He took the opportunity to take a subtle shot at Vancouver and its frenzy for the game.
"Sometimes Vancouver wants a little more than someone can handle.."
Ed Jovanovski talked about OEL's season for the Panthers and why he has worked so well.
Jovanovski blames Vancouver for wanting a little too much out of OEL. At the same time, the defenseman did command an annual $8.25M; doesn't it make sense to have expectations?
When he hit free agency, Ekman-Larsson signed a one-year prove-me deal with the Panthers worth $2.25M with 32 points through 80 games. He did play up to the expectations, and there's a strong possibility that the Panthers will consider re-signing the 32-year-old.
