Vancouver Canucks' Contract Talks With Pius Suter Take an Unfortunate Turn

Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter has been a reliable bottom-six option for Rick Tocchet ever since signing a two-year contract with the club in August 2023, but his time with the organization could be coming to a close.

During Monday's edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman went through each team in the National Hockey League and gave his thoughts on what they might do heading into the trade deadline.

When he made his way to the Vancouver Canucks, Friedman gave an update on pending unrestricted free agent forward Pius Suter, saying that he's not close to a contract extension with the club.

With contract talks between both sides not close, it'll be interesting to see if Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin attempts to trade him before the 12 pm PT deadline on Friday.

Suter is having a career-year for the Vancouver Canucks, setting a new high in goals with 16 and is on pace to surpass his previous high in points, which was 36 back in 2021-22 with the Detroit Red Wings.

If Patrik Allvin does decide that he's going to try and move Pius Suter this week, there certainly won't be a shortage of suitors as given his play during the 2024-25 season as contending teams are always looking for depth scoring.

It could be a busy week for the Vancouver Canucks as Brock Boeser, Carson Soucy and Pius Suter are all possibilities to be dealt by Patrik Allvin before Friday's deadline, but the club is still hoping to remain in the playoff mix too and are searching for help down the middle.
