With an assist in Vancouver's recent game, Tyler Myers became the seventh defenceman from the iconic 2008 NHL Draft to reach 395 career NHL points.
It's yet another reminder of just how special the 2008 class was for defencemen. Many have argued it could go down as the best crop of blueliners in NHL history, and Myers' latest milestone only adds fuel to that conversation.
Unlike most of the names on that list, Myers has never been pegged as a purely offensive defenceman. But that hasn't stopped him from producing solid numbers throughout his 16-year career.
His offensive peak actually came right out of the gate. In his rookie season with the Buffalo Sabres, the towering 6'8» defenceman racked up 48 points, earning him the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 2009-10.
Since then, his game has evolved. He's been relied on more for his defensive presence, physicality, and penalty-killing ability, especially during his time with Winnipeg and now in Vancouver.
But every now and then, he still chips in on the scoresheet-quietly building a case as one of the more steady and durable defencemen from that legendary draft.
Milestones like this one are easy to overlook unless your name is Karlsson or Doughty. But Myers' longevity, consistency, and ability to adapt his game over the years deserve some recognition.
It's not easy sticking around in the NHL for this long, especially as the game has shifted toward speed and skill. Myers has done just that-racking up over 1,000 games and now closing in on 400 career points.
In a class loaded with future Hall of Famers, Tyler Myers has carved out his own respectable legacy. And with this latest milestone, he's officially in some elite company.
