The National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2024-25 season is less than 30 days away and it's shaping up to be a busy one for the Vancouver Canucks.

Earlier this week, it was reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman that the Vancouver Canucks have made defenseman Carson Soucy available for trade ahead of the deadline and it looks like at least one team has entered the mix.

Vancouver Canucks' rival could be landing spot for Carson Soucy

During his 32 Thoughts article on Thursday morning, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman discussed the decision by Vancouver to make Carson Soucy available on the trade market.
Friedman said that the Canucks have a logjam on the left side, especially after acquiring Marcus Pettersson from the Pittsburgh Penguins, which prompted the team to make Soucy available.
He went on to add that one team that makes sense for Carson Soucy is the Calgary Flames, given that he's from Alberta, but went on to say that the club wants to see Ilya Solovyov in action, who was called up yesterday from the AHL.
"The left-side jam made Carson Soucy available. Not an easy year for him, but I like Soucy - who played his weak side during Tuesday's 3-0 win over Colorado. Very good for Vancouver in last year's playoffs, and effective when Seattle beat Colorado in 2023. He can help someone. Calgary makes sense (he's from Alberta), but the Flames want to see some Ilya Solovyov." Friedman said.

Soucy, 30, has appeared in 52 games for the Vancouver Canucks this season where he's put up eight points (two goals, six assists), 42 penalty minutes and is a minus-15.
The Viking, Alberta native has one year remaining on his contract following the 2024-25 season which comes with a $3.25 million cap hit and a full no-trade clause, before shifting to a modified NTC for the 2025-26 campaign.
Whether or not the Calgary Flames actually inquire about Carson Soucy remains to be seen, but there's no doubt that there will be a number of teams, especially contenders, that'll be phoning up Patrik Allvin in the coming weeks.
