Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin has been the busiest General Manager in the NHL over the last seven days and has now made a big move for the team's future.
On Friday night, the Vancouver Canucks landed the top-four defenseman they've been searching for ever since the beginning of the season when
they acquired Marcus Pettersson from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Vancouver Canucks were attempting to acquire Marcus Pettersson since last August and it just shows how much they value him in their current roster and for the future after it was announced that he's signed a long-term deal with the club.
In a social media post this evening, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've agreed to terms on a six-year contract worth $33 million USD ($5.5 million AAV) with Marcus Pettersson, who was set to become a free agent on July 1st.
"Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Marcus Pettersson on a six-year contract extension with a $5.5M AAV."
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff is reporting that in the first three years of Pettersson's new deal, it includes a full no-move and no-trade clause, before shifting to a 15-team no-trade clause for the final three seasons of the contract.
"Pettersson gets a full no-move/no-trade for first three years of the deal, followed by 15-team no-trade in final three years of the deal." Seravalli said.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin commented on the signing on Wednesday saying that Marcus Pettersson has shown the type of leadership and character they want in a top-four defenseman and that the team is happy to have him locked up for six years following the 2024-25 campaign.
"In just a couple of games, Marcus has already shown us the type of leadership, poise and character that we want in a top four defenceman, said Allvin. "He has a calming influence on the ice, uses his long reach and hockey smarts to break up plays and has a good first pass to help us create more offensively. We are extremely happy to get this deal done and look forward to working with him in both the short term and long term."
In 49 games this season between the Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins, Pettersson has registered 18 points (three goals, 15 assists), 25 penalty minutes and is a minus-two.
