After Alex Ovechkin scary leg injury amidst his hot chase for Wayne Gretzky's goal record, the team confirmed he will be out for the longest period of time in his long NHL career.

Coming into the matchup with the Utah Hockey Cloub, Ovechkin has been playing like age is just a number.

At 39-years-old, Ovechkin had 13 goals in 17 games after coming off a hat trick just 24 hours prior against the Vegas Golden Knights.

He was showing no sings of slowing down as Ovi scored another 2 goals before he went down awkwardly in a collision with Utah's Jack McBain.

Ovechkin came back onto the ice shortly after for a quick lap in front of the bench to see how his leg/knee was, but he was still in some pain. He left for the Capitals' locker room and did not return.

Alex Ovechkin injury update has him out with Injury

It was originally thought that he was going to be week-to-week, but the Capitals confirmed the worst as Ovechkin is going to be out 4-6 weeks with a broken fibula.

As Chris Johnston reported, this will be the longest period of time Ovechkin will miss in his 20 year NHL career.

Unfortunately, it will pause Ovi's pursuit to break the ultimate goal record set by Wayne Gretzky.

Ovechkin now has 868 career goals, which is only just 24 goals shy of tying Gretzky's record and he was on a clear pace to break it this season, but that can all change with this injury.

We hope that Ovechkin has a speedy recovery as no one else deserves to be on top of that goal list like him.
