Controversial call raising eyebrows all-around the league
At a certain point in the game opposing the Avalanche and Stars last night, a clear infraction took place and it's been quite the laughing stock since then.
Fighting for a puck in front of the net, Mason Marchment took his stick right up Josh Manson's face. Therefore setting a call for a 2-minute high-sticking and possibly a 4-minute penalty if Manson had been bleeding.
The call the referee made on the ice, was that since the play was stopped because Manson failed to get back up, the determining element of the call was whether or not there had been an injury.
Since Manson had not been injured on the play, the referee stated that there was not a penalty to be called.
It's definitely the first time we've witnessed such a call in the NHL.
