LATEST | Gary Bettman provides update on NHL participation at Olympics
February 23rd, 2014 was the last time hockey fans got to see NHL players participating on the international stage at the Winter Olympics as Canada defeated Sweden by a score of 3-0 to earn the back-to-back gold medals. But that could change pretty soon.
While making an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman said that the he wants to send the players to the Olympics because it's important to them.
He went on to add that if they're able to make proper arrangements and can make it happen with the International Olympic Committee, the NHL will be sending their players to Italy in 2026.
"We do want to go because first and foremost it is important to the players, listen we don't make any money by going to the Olympics and that's not the be all and end all" Bettman said.
He added, "If we can make it happen with the IOC and the appropriate arrangements are made, we are going to go"
From a Vancouver Canucks perspective, they could have several players represent their nations at the Winter Olympics in 2026, including Elias Pettersson (Sweden), Quinn Hughes & Thatcher Demko (United States), Filip Hronek (Czechia), among others.
Should the NHL send their players to the Olympics in 2026 or should they focus on just the World Cup of Hockey? Let us know what you think in the poll below!
