LATEST | Junior hockey player in Ontario passes away at age 18
Some sad news to report on in the hockey world on Tuesday as the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins, a team in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, announced that one of their players, Tyson Downs, has tragically passed away at the age of 18.
"The KW Siskins family is mourning the sudden loss of a cherished member of their team. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye for now to Tyson Downs. His passion for the game was infectious, and his dedication to the team was unparalleled. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time. His passing leaves a void that will never be filled. Rest in peace, Tyson. You will be missed but never forgotten." The Siskins said in a statement.
The Owen Sound, Ontario native was in his first season with the team in 2022-23 and went on to record 23 points in 45 games, following that up with 18 points in 16 playoff games and was named to the GOJHL's midwestern all-rookie team.
Our thoughts are with Downs' family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
