The NHL Department of Player Safety has been heavily criticized of late when it comes down to handling punishments. With some calling the league out for favoritism to various players compared to others when suspensions and fines are handled including from Bruins forward Brad Marchand.
Tuesday night had two incidents both were definitely suspension worthy, but the NHL Department of Player Safety decided to give Philadelphia Flyers defenceman a two game suspension for spearing Lightning's forward Corey Perry in his little Lightning bolts.
Here's the video of the DeAngelo spear. DeAngelo was given a five minute major and game misconduct:
The second incident from Tuesday night was when Minnesota Wild's forward Ryan Hartman would whack his stick across Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson then punch Flames forward Trevor Lewis in the face with his glove on.
Definitely suspension worthy also, but instead of a suspension, the NHL Department of Player Safety gave Hartman a fine of $4,594.59. The maximum allowed under the current CBA.
Here's the Ryan Hartman incident he received a double minor penalty for the slash, and punch.
