Many analysts have stated that the Canucks needed scoring help, especially since Kuzmenko can't find the back of the net and also because he and Tocchet don't seem to get along very well.
The Blue Jackets haven't been performing up to their expectations, and they could be looking to make a splash. That's precisely where the Canucks, the Jackets and the Leafs could meet. A blockbuster, eight-piece deal has been circulating on social media and would cause a stir in the NHL.
The Canucks would land an elite scoring winger in Patrik Laine and an elite-level prospect and BC talent, Kent Johnson. Ultimately, the end cost of this deal would wind up being Andrei Kuzmenko, Vasily Podkolzin, Teddy Blueger and a 2nd Round Pick.
The biggest would be to see whether or not Laine could be a better fit under Tocchet. What's certain is that his ability to score goals is amongst the league's very best. Johnson would also add speed and skill to the Canucks line-up. Imagine what the Canucks' lines could look like after a trade of this sort:
Hoglander - Miller - Boeser
Johnson - Pettersson - Laine
Mikheyev - Lafferty - Garland
Joshua - Suter - PDG/Aman
Would that be a line-up better fitted for a deep playoff run? Would that be a move you'd like?
