TRADE ALERT | Chris Tanev has been traded
The market for right-handed defensemen has been heating up in the last few days, and it appears that the Canucks have lost the Chris Tanev derby.
According to a report coming from Pierre Lebrun, Tanev is headed to the Dallas Stars. The Flames had been holding onto their veteran in hopes that they'd be fetching a 1st Rounder, and the return is very close to it.
In addition, the Flames will retain 50% of Tanev's cap hit:
Trade call still pending, but hearing Chris Tanev is being traded to Dallas
2nd round pick, young prospect and conditional pick going to Flames in return for Tanev
The Stars were a solid contender, even without Tanev. It's fair to say that adding a warrior or Tanev's value will go a long way toward their journey to the Stanley Cup.
The Canucks were known to be heavily involved. However, the hefty price tag made it extremely difficult for Allvin to remain in the race. Even though one of their preferred options is off the board, it's expected that the Canucks will remain very active.
