Big news regarding North Vancouver native Connor Bedard
Some big news has emerged regarding North Vancouver native and Chicago Blackhawks rookie forward Connor Bedard from TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
During Tuesday's edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Pierre LeBrun reported that Team Canada general manager Rick Nash has reached out to Connor Bedard, as well as Anaheim Ducks forward Mason McTavish, to participate at the 2024 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Czechia next month.
LeBrun went on to add that while there is no official answer yet, the expectation is that Connor Bedard will say yes to Canada and play at the World Championship, which begins on May 10th.
"That is the idea, James. Team Canada general manager Rick Nash has reached out to those two players because those two players' teams have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And that's why he's only reached out to two players so far because of all these other teams that he's waiting on to be officially eliminated keep hanging out hanging in there in the East and the West." LeBrun said.
He added, "But those calls are coming around the league soon and, obviously, no official word from Bedard just yet. Been a pretty busy last couple of years for him with the draft and you mentioned he actually played in a couple of World Juniors. But it's expected that the answer will be a yes and all probabilities are Bedard will go play for Canada at the men's worlds."
Bedard, 18, is a force to be reckoned with on the international stage, setting multiple Canadian records at the World Junior Championship, including most points in a single tournament at 23 and career-wise with 36.
Canada will begin its quest for a back-to-back gold medals and a third championship in four years on May 10th at 3:20 a.m. PT/6:20 a.m. ET as they take on Great Britain. The entire tournament, all 64 games, can be seen on TSN across Canada.
