The Detroit Red Wings make statement on former Vancouver Canucks Tyler Motte and Sheldon Dries.

This summer, the Detroit Red Wings brought in a pair of former Vancouver Canucks forwards, Tyler Motte and Sheldon Dries, both of whom are expected to compete for depth spots on the opening night roster.

In a post on social media on Friday, the Red Wings shared an image that shows which number all of their new additions will wear with the team next season. Sheldon Dries has gone for number 15, which he wore during his time with Vancouver, while Tyler Motte has chosen 14.

Dries, who spent the last three seasons in the Vancouver Canucks organization, agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way contract with Detroit that comes with a cap hit of $775,000, which is the league's minimum salary. In 55 games with the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks last season, Dries had 52 points (29 goals, 23 assists).

As for Tyler Motte, who was loved by the fans in Vancouver, he signed a one-year deal with the Red Wings on the second day of free agency, and will earn $800,000 at the NHL level. Last season, he spent the entire year with the Tampa Bay Lightning, skating in 69 games where he put up nine points (six goals, three assists), 28 penalty minutes and was a minus-eight.
