Elias Pettersson has had quite a tough season so far and his performance at the 4 Nations Face-Off with Sweden wasn't great either, leading to many wondering if he's injured.
On Wednesday night, the National Hockey League's 4 Nations Face-Off documentary aired on Sportsnet and during one scene,
cameras caught Elias Pettersson icing his knee before a game, which raised some eyebrows.
NHL insider hearing mixed reports on whether or not Elias Pettersson is injured
Less than 12 hours
after Canada's big win over the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman released the newest edition of the
32 Thoughts podcast, where of course, Elias Pettersson's play was a topic of discussion.
During the podcast on Friday, Elliotte Friedman said he's hearing from some sources that Elias Pettersson is dealing with something, but then added that he's hearing pushback on the issue and wanted to leave it at that.
"It was rough for him here...I know he's battling something, I don't know, I don't know. There's a lot of pushback on that. I don't even know what to say about it, so I'm just going to stop there." Friedman said.
Jason Brough of Halford and Brough asked Elliotte Friedman for clarification on his comments from the podcast and the Sportsnet insider said that some people have told him that Pettersson is playing hurt, while others believe that, even if injured, it shouldn't be something that will prevent him from being in the lineup.
"I'm trying to have a quiet day. There's people who say he's hurt and there's people who say that they don't think it's something that should be preventing him from playing. I don't know." Friedman said.
One way or another, this situation needs to be figured out because the Vancouver Canucks need Elias Pettersson to be at the top of his game and back to the 100+ point player he was two years ago.
Everyone knows the skill and talent that Elias Pettersson has and what he's capable of, but fans haven't seen that from him over the last 12 months, scoring just 12 goals in his last 97 games for Vancouver, including the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
We'll see how Elias Pettersson responds on the ice tomorrow when the Vancouver Canucks return to action against the Vegas Golden Knights on Hockey Night in Canada, with puck drop set for 7 pm PT.
