New York dealt forward Josh Bailey, as well as a 2026 second-round pick to the Blackhawks for future considerations. In order to get rid of Bailey's contract, the Islanders were forced to part ways with a pretty high draft pick, even though it's not until three years from now.
This news is not great for the Canucks when it comes to trying to move Conor Garland. Garland has three more years on his contract with an average annual value of $4.95 million.
Even though he's younger than Bailey, the term left on his contract, combined with the salary may scare some teams away and will more than likely mean Allvin will have to attach a high draft pick or even a prospect to get rid of him.
With all that being said, unless a team is willing to step up and want to add Garland to their roster, which is entirely possible in the coming days and weeks, there's a pretty good chance that Garland will remain with the Canucks for at least the start of the 2023-24 season.
