The American anthem was booed on Saturday night in Ottawa and Calgary after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on Canadian goods.
U.S. President Donald Trump said for weeks leading up to his inauguration that he would be implementing tariffs on Canadian goods and he followed through on that following an announcement on Saturday.

Donald Trump made the announcement of a 25 percent tariff on all Canadian goods, along with a 10 percent tariff on energy resources from Canada, such as oil and natural gas.
Understandably, this decision angered Canadians to the point where they were booing the anthem of their neighbors to the south during last night's games between the Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild, as well as Calgary Flames vs Detroit Red Wings.

Just as the third period was getting underway in Ottawa, the attention of Canadians coast-to-coast-to-coast was on the Nation's Capital, but not for the Senators game, but rather to hear what response Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was going to announce.
Justin Trudeau told reporters that Canada will be issuing a 25 percent tariff on $155 billion worth of American goods, with $30 billion of that coming on Tuesday and the remaining $125 billion in three weeks time to allow Canadian businesses to find alternative products and materials.
"Tariffs against Canada will put your jobs at risk, potentially shutting down American auto assembly plants and other manufacturing facilities. They will raise costs for you, including food at the grocery stores, gas at the pump," Trudeau said.
As for the hockey, Ottawa dominated the Minnesota Wild, firing 52 shots on Filip Gustavsson and walking away with a 6-0 win to keep them in third place in the Atlantic Division.
Meanwhile in Calgary, new additions of Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee made their Flames debut, but it was the Red Wings who came out on top 3-1 thanks to goals from Andrew Copp, Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson.
Amid the trade war between Canada and the United States, the two nations are set to do battle in less than two weeks at the 4 Nations Face-Off on February 15th, which is their first best-on-best meeting since the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
In their last seven meetings at best-on-best competitions, Canada has dominated the United States, winning six games, with their only loss coming in the preliminary round of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
Puck drop for that game between Canada and the United States on February 15th is set for 5 pm PT and will be played at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
