LATEST | An announcement has been made on Canucks' top prospect Hunter Brzustewicz
Several prospects in the Vancouver Canucks organization are having solid starts to their respective seasons across North America and Europe, but for Hunter Brzustewicz, he's on another level.
On Tuesday, Brzustewicz was honoured by the Ontario Hockey League as their top defenceman for October.
"Vancouver Canucks prospect Hunter Brzustewicz of the Kitchener Rangers is the OHL Defenceman of the Month, leading the league with 25 points, including five goals and 20 assists over 13 games, with a plus/minus rating of plus-11. Brzustewicz rides a current 12-game point streak into November, registering a four-assist showing on Sept. 30th in Flint, along with a total of five three-point efforts in the opening month of the season. Brzustewicz becomes the first Rangers blueliner named OHL Defenceman of the Month since Ryan Murphy in January 2012."
Brzustewicz's start to the 2023-24 season with the Kitchener Rangers is something to marvel at, and with the OHL just over a month into their new campaign, to have a defenceman leading the league in points is quite remarkable.
His 25 points in 15 games will undoubtedly catch the eye of USA Hockey, who will be naming their preliminary camp roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship at some point in late November. Brzustewicz's play will not only land him a spot on the United States roster, but he should play a significant role, potentially on a pairing with Montreal Canadiens prospect Lane Hutson.
