LATEST | Canucks officially make roster move regarding Tanner Pearson
Vancouver Canucks forward Tanner Pearson received some really good news yesterday, with training camp set to open in a matter of days.
Pearson was officially activated off long-term injured reserve by the Canucks on Monday, which means that he's good to go for the start of training camp and preseason games, which begin on Sunday.
But activating Pearson has put the team further in a pickle when it comes to their salary cap situation, as according to CapFriendly, it leaves the club $1.7 million over the cap, even if they decide to place
Tucker Poolman on LTIR, which is expected by many.
To start the season, the Canucks may have to have a roster of only 20 or 21 players in order to become cap compliant, CapFriendly says.
"Vancouver #Canucks officially activated Tanner Pearson of IR/LTIR yesterday.
This is significant because it means that he is no longer considered an LTI candidate, and tentatively leaves the club $1,709,167 over the cap even if they place Poolman on LTIR.
The Canucks could still start the season cap compliant, but it would likely result in a roster with only 20 or 21 players."
Pearson, 31, suffered an injury to his hand in November 2022 and was officially shut down by the Canucks for the season two months later. Pearson underwent multiple surgeries on his hand, potentially as many as 6 or 7, as Rick Dhaliwal reported back in the spring.
The Kitchener, Ontario native appeared in 14 games last season where he put up five points (one goal, four assists), 21 penalty minutes and was a minus-nine. He has one year remaining on his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2024.
