With opening night quickly approaching, the Canucks already have one injury issue to deal with on their blue line and that's with Carson Soucy, who sustained a lower-body injury on Friday night.

As of Sunday morning, there has been no update from the Canucks on Soucy's status, which is a little bit concerning for Canucks fans, but it's likely due to the fact that they're still awaiting the results from an MRI and trying to plan their next steps.

Regardless if Soucy is out short or long-term, the Canucks are reportedly seeking help on the blue line and looking for a partner for captain Quinn Hughes, according to Nick Kypreos.

Kypreos also added that he's heard the Vancouver Canucks are more willing to retain some salary on players now than they have been in the past. Two potential trade chips mentioned are Brock Boeser and Conor Garland, both of whom have been in the rumour mill before.

It seems unlikely that the Canucks will make a trade before they open the season on Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oilers, but there's always an opportunity to help the roster by claiming someone off waivers. A total of 23 players were on the waiver wire on Saturday afternoon, while it's expected a lot more will be placed on it on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT. Depending on who's available, Allvin could put in a claim on a defenceman who can help the roster right away.

As mentioned, the Canucks will open their 2023-24 season on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. PT in Vancouver against the Edmonton Oilers.
