The Vancouver Canucks kicked off their annual Young Stars tournament in style on Friday night by defeating the Calgary Flames by a score of 7 to 1.

All seven of Vancouver's goals were scored by different players - Vilmer Alriksson, Aidan McDonough, Marc Gatcomb, Cole McWard, Jacob Maillet, Filip Johansson and Karel Plasek.

The Canucks' coach for the tournament, Jeremy Colliton, who's the bench boss in Abbotsford, mentioned the strong forecheck and defence that gave them a big chance to win Friday's game.

"I thought we started really well, love the work ethic, forechecking, aggressiveness, thought our defense did a good job defending the rush so we were able to make a lot of plays for that. It's fun to watch" Colliton said.

He added, "Our defence did a really good job defending the rushwe managed the puck really wellthe work ethic was there & we made some unselfish decisions which turned into success for other guys. Everyone had their chance to shine."

The Canucks will be back in action on Sunday at 2 p.m. PT against the Winnipeg Jets, before taking on the Edmonton Oilers on Monday afternoon.
