Just days ago, former Vancouver Canucks defenceman Travis Dermott decided to use Pride tape during a game to show his support for the LGBT community, despite the NHL having a ban in effect that players are not allowed to use the video.

"I'm still here. The fight's not over." Dermott said.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the NHL has reversed course on banning players from using Pride or any tape for social causes.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the National Hockey League, the NHLPA and the Player Inclusion Commission, have agreed that players will be allowed to use Pride tape and other tape for social causes throughout the season if they'd like.

"There is word the NHL, NHLPA and NHL Player Inclusion Coalition have agreed that players can represent social causes with stick tape throughout the season. This includes games and practices," Friedman said.

The NHL's reversal on the ban of Pride tape comes just months after they decided that teams are not allowed to wear uniforms in warm-up for different theme nights during the season, including for Military Night, Hockey Fights Cancer Night, and Pride Night. The move came after several players decided to skip warm-ups during the 2022-23 season on Pride Nights, citing religious beliefs.

Do you think it should be up to the players if they want to use the tape and wear warm-up uniforms for social causes, or should that be up to the NHL to control? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
