LATEST | Ron MaClean finally speaks up regarding Don Cherry and Hockey Night in Canada
November will mark the 4th anniversary of ''Grapes' '' (Don Cherry) departure from both Coach Corner and Hockey Night in Canada. Both had been popular fixtures in Canada for decades.
Maclean finally opens up
His partner, Ron Maclean, the other half of the iconic duo, finally opened up. The HNIC host discussed the circumstances that eventually ended the show and Cherry's tenure. He believes that Coach's Corner would have naturally ended due to how things have been developping as of late:
"Grapes was good at reaching his viewer and knowing what they wanted expert at that but we are held to a different metric or standard now, and I don't know if we could have made it much longer, MacLean said on the podcast. So I'm glad Don went out and people aren't that mad at him for what he said. They should be don't ever get me wrong. You can't project an attitude on people just because of where they're from. We were so wrong, and it just needed an apology and it would have been gone; we would have been onward and upward. But people aren't that angry about it. It wasn't the worst thing that's ever been said in the history of humanity, so he kind of went out on top and people miss him and I think that's kind of a nice way to be."
This may not be the explanation everybody expected out of Maclean. However, he laid it out the way he believed to be right. Up to this day, Don Cherry remains one of the most popular face in Televised Hockey and many believe that Maclean turned his back on his former partner.
Since then, Cherry has indicated that he'd never cherish a relationship with Maclean again.
