LATEST | Rutherford reveals the Canucks' plan heading towards the deadline
Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks have been the busiest team on the trade market since the 2023-24 season began just over two months ago.
In recent weeks, Allvin has dealt forward Anthony Beauvillier to the Chicago Blackhawks, which opened up vital cap space to address a need on the blue line by going out and acquiring Nikita Zadorov from the Calgary Flames.
While in an ideal world, the Canucks would like to add a top-six forward and a right-shot defenceman, it won't be easy given their salary cap situation, but that won't stop Patrik Allvin from looking.
In an interview with Sportsnet, Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford was asked if the team would be aggressive leading up to the trade deadline in March, to which he said that they will be continuing to look anywhere to improve their current roster.
"We'll see how the team plays and how everybody plays and where our needs are. I don't know if 'aggressive' is the right word. But we'll continue to look at anywhere we can improve the team." Rutherford said.
Rutherford was also asked if the team needed another defenceman after adding Zadorov and he said that you can never have enough defencemen.
"Well, you can never have enough defencemen. You can ask every team that. I will say that we're really pleased with the development of (Noah) Juulsen. Same with any position, we're going to keep looking to see if there's anywhere that we can upgrade." Rutherford said.
As mentioned, the Canucks have reportedly been on the look out for a top-six forward and a right-shot defenceman and in the coming weeks and months, we should beginning to get an idea of which players should hit the market leading up to March 8th's deadline.
