LATEST | Vince Dunn's extension means great news for the Canucks and their salary cap management
The Kraken inked their top defenseman Vince Dunn on Friday to a massive 4-years and $29.4M extension. The defenseman is coming off a career best 64 points in 81 games and sheds some light on the current market for offensive driving defenseman.
Two years ago, the Canucks inked one of the league's most prolific offensive defenceman to a 6-year-deal with a $7.85M AAV. Since then, this defenseman's produced 144 points in only 154 games. You've guessed correctly, based off of his production and efficiency, the Canucks have Hughes under one of the league's best contract for 4 more years.
Given the current cap situation, having a top-end defenseman such as Quinn Hughes in such a 'cost-efficient' contract only provides positive value to the team. The question that remains at that point, is whether or not they'll be able to surround him well enough to build off of that.
