MAJOR | Important press conference announced: We have the details
The Canucks are hosting a press conference at 11 AM PST where they are expected to announce a significant extension.
To the disappointment of Canucks fans, it's not expected to be for Elias Pettersson, but for someone with his fingerprints all over this team and its success this season.
TSN's Farhan Lalji says he can confirm the Canucks will be extending their President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports that the extension is expected to be for three years.
Since joining the organization in late 2021, Rutherford has brought Stanley Cup winning experience and stability to the organization, and has worked as an excellent tandem with Patrik Allvin after bringing him in as GM just over a month later.
The team is having its best season in over a decade, and Rutherford has overseen significant moves like the resigning of JT Miller and trading of captain Bo Horvat that have to this point worked out great for the Canucks.
The new contract will expire when Rutherford is 78 years old.
