During his most recent 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman mentioned that one team that could be a potential suitor for Conor Garland is the Nashville Predators.
Friedman says the Predators have the cap space to make it work and Garland is the type of player the team would like to have. He went on to add that the will have to retain salary to make a deal work, whether it be with Nashville or another team, potentially as much as 30%.
30% of Garland's salary being retained would be $1.485 million for the next three seasons. The NHL's salary cap is expected to go up by roughly $4 million ahead of the 2024-25 season, so retaining that amount is certainly doable. But when combining that amount with what they'll be paying Oliver Ekman-Larsson, it's certainly not ideal.
While on Halford and Brough, Rick Dhaliwal mentioned that he thinks teams would be pretty happy if the Vancouver Canucks would be willing to retain $1.5 million of Garland's contract.
Dhaliwal also added that the Winnipeg Jets had also shown interest in the small format winger:
Garland, 27, had a great start to the 2023-24 season on Wednesday night scoring one goal and helping the Canucks rout the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 8 to 1.
