A Pair of Vancouver Canucks Stars Have Officially Turned Down a Major Offer

A pair of Vancouver Canucks players have reportedly turned down an invitation to play at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
With the Vancouver Canucks' playoff hopes officially over following wins by the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, the team will begin to look to the offseason once their schedule comes to an end on April 17th.
As is the case every May, NHL players that are not involved in the Stanley Cup Playoffs have an opportunity to represent their nation at the IIHF World Championship, but it looks like a couple of Canucks have already turned down invitations.

Each of the 16 nations participating in the IIHF World Championship have already begun the process of sending out invitations to players that won't be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
According to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali, Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko were asked, but will not be playing for the United States at the IIHF World Championship next month.
Dhaliwal said that this is right move for both players as they need rest following their respective injuries during the 2024-25 season.
"Been told Quinn Hughes has already said no to the USA team for the world hockey championships.
I believe Thatcher Demko is not going as well.

It's been quite some time since Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko have represented the United States on the international stage, with their last appearance coming six years ago at the 2019 IIHF World Championship.
Which Vancouver Canucks could play at the IIHF World Championship?
While Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko may have turned down invitations, the Vancouver Canucks could still be well represented at the tournament, which starts on Friday, May 9th.
Jake DeBrusk (Canada), Filip Hronek (Czechia), Kevin Lankinen (Finland), Teddy Blueger (Latvia), Elias Pettersson (Sweden), Marcus Pettersson (Sweden), Pius Suter (Switzerland), Conor Garland (United States) and Brock Boeser (United States) are all possibilities to represent their respective nations next month.
The 2025 IIHF World Championship will run from Friday, May 9th to Sunday, May 25th in Herning, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden.
