Brock Boeser has high praise for one of his new teammate
Brock Boeser had high praise for new Vancouver Canucks forward Danton Heinen while speaking with reporters on Friday.
So far to start training camp, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet has had Brock Boeser playing alongside Danton Heinen, who signed with the team as an unrestricted free agent back on July 1st.
Heinen has plenty of playoff experience, 48 games to be specific, and that will be very valuable to the Vancouver Canucks once they reach the postseason next April as they look to get over the hump and potentially into the Western Conference Final.
After Friday's on-ice session for their group, Brock Boeser spoke with reporters and was asked about playing with Danton Heinen at the start of training camp. Boeser was full of praise for Heinen, calling him a really smart player and that he works hard.
"Yeah, it's good. Obviously only our second day with him, so I'm excited to continue these practices with him and hopefully play that first preseason game with him and see how it goes." Boeser said.
When asked about gaining chemistry with Heinen, Boeser added, "Just making him understand the type of hockey Millsy [J.T Miller] and I like to play. We like to keep it simple. We're pretty black and white on how we want to play and what we want to do in the offensive zone. But I think Danton's a really smart player. I played against him since college. I think his hockey IQ is there, he works hard and I think he'll fit in well."
Heinen, a native of Langley, British Columbia, is coming off a career-year in terms of goal scoring, setting a new high with 17 during his second stint with the Boston Bruins in 2023-24. The Canucks are hoping that he can contribute at least 17 goals this season, but if he's playing with J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser, the sky is his limit and he could be looking at a new career high by the time the 2024-25 season wraps up.
Vancouver Canucks fans will likely get their first look at Danton Heinen in the blue and green on Tuesday night as the team hosts the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 pm PT/10 pm ET.
