Training camp in Penticton is entering its third day on Saturday and spirits are high among the Canucks players and while it's still very early, there appears to be chemistry growing between two key members of the forward group - Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk.
The Canucks posted a video to their social media accounts on Friday which showed the duo participating in a two-on-two drill. Pettersson starts things off with the puck, deking around defensive prospect Elias Pettersson before passing to Jake DeBrusk, who was able to break away from being covered, creating enough space below the hashmarks to quickly shoot it into the back of the net.
This is a good sign for the Vancouver Canucks, even though it's still early. Pettersson and DeBrusk compliment each other's respective playing styles very well and seem like the perfect match to be on a line together. Canucks fans will get their first chance at seeing them together in game action on Wednesday in Abbotsford against the Calgary Flames.
It's safe to say at this point that Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk will likely start the season on a line together, with the other winger still needing to be determined. To start camp, it's been 2022 first-round pick Jonathan Lekkerimaki, but there's a few others that could occupy that spot on opening night including Nils Hoglander and Daniel Sprong.
The Canucks are set to wrap up the Penticton portion of their training camp tomorrow before playing their first preseason game on Tuesday night at Rogers Arena against the Seattle Kraken.
