There are several impact players, including Steven Stamkos and Sam Reinhart, that are unrestricted free agents this summer, whether or not they'll remain with their current team or test the open remains to be seen.
But there is one player who has already made a decision and the Vancouver Canucks are one team that expressed interest during the season and could circle back in free agency.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Vancouver Canucks could be among the teams that pursue forward Tyler Toffoli when the free agent market opens on Canada Day. Pagnotta says that the Canucks were interested in trading for Toffoli during the season, but ultimately, he was dealt to the Winnipeg Jets.
Toffoli, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, appeared in 17 games between the regular season and playoffs with the Vancouver Canucks in 2019-20, putting up 14 points. The Canucks would then let Toffoli walk to free agency where he'd sign with another Canadian team, the Montreal Canadiens.
In 79 games this season with the New Jersey Devils and Winnipeg Jets, Toffoli had 55 points (33 goals, 22 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a minus-six. He went on to add two goals in five games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
