The Vancouver Canucks have signed both a depth defenceman and a depth forward on the first day of free agency.

After announcing the big move of the day, adding Jake DeBrusk, Patrik Allvin announced that the team has added Derek Forbort and Kiefer Sherwood.

Forbort, the big defensive defenceman, spent the last 3 seasons with Boston and gets a one year deal worth $1.5 million.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Derek Forbort on a 1-year contract worth $1.5M.

Forbort spent much of last season on injured reserve, and could provide a replacement for Ian Cole at half the price.

Source on Forbort : Big shutdown left defenseman, top PK guy and blacks shots, character off the charts, favourite in the room.

Kiefer Sherwood, on the other hand, played the last two seasons in Nashville and is coming off by far his most effective season, scoring 27 points in 68 games.

Sherwood gets the same AAV as Forbort, but an additional year.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Kiefer Sherwood on a 2-year contract with a $1.5M AAV.

The Canucks have just under $3.8 million in cap space next season, but also need to ink Arturs Silovs to a new contract. They'd still like to add another defenceman, however at this point with limited cap space, they may be forced to try to find a bargain.
