Canucks forward Elias Pettersson closing in on important Canucks milestone
Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is close to reaching an important milestone in team history next season.
While he still managed to put up 89 points in 82 games, the 2023-24 season was a tough one for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson. At times he struggled to produce and took a step back from the 102-point campaign in the previous season.
It could be attributed to the outside noise that he faced due to his contract situation, before putting pen to paper on an extension in early March, but there's no doubt he'll have a big year in 2024-25.
Looking ahead to the 2024-25 campaign, Elias Pettersson has the opportunity to make a significant jump up the Canucks all-time points list. Currently, Pettersson has 412 points, which is only eight back of former captain Bo Horvat for tenth place. The Sundsvall, Sweden native is also only 88 points back of 500 for his career.
Other names on the all-time list that Pettersson could surpass next season include Todd Bertuzzi (449), Tony Tanti (470) and Pavel Bure (478).
"Pettersson will open next season just eight points behind Bo Horvat for 10th on the list. And before season's end, as long as he gets his offensive mojo back, the Sundsvall, SWE product should zip past Todd Bertuzzi (449), Tony Tanti (470) and Pavel Bure (478). Beyond that, there is a significant jump to Thomas Gradin who currently occupies sixth spot (550) in franchise scoring." Jeff Paterson of Canucks Army said.
It's going to be a big season for Elias Pettersson and with his contract negotiations behind him, there's no doubt that he can reach the 100-point plateau for the second time in his career. Pettersson's climb up the all-time points list will continue on October 9th when the Vancouver Canucks open the 2024-25 season at home against the Calgary Flames.
