As if things could not get worse for the Vancouver Canucks, top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki was forced to leave the game against the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL after crashing head first into the boards in what turned to be a scary scene.

The Vancouver Canucks have been plagued with injuries and off-ice issues this season, and it feels that everyday goes by they continue to not get any breaks.

With 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd period in the matchup with the Abbottsford Canucks against the Tucson Roadrunners, Lekkerimaki was making a defense effort to stop Roadrunners forward from crashing the net.

In his attempt at the back check, he lost his footing and fell head first into the board behind his own net.

Although not needing a stretcher, he laid on the ice for an extended period of time in extreme discomfort.

The series of events was quite scary, like all injuries that are related to the head.

There has not been an update on the nature or extent of Lekkerimaki's injury, but by the looks of the fall, he could be out for an extended period of time.

The 2022 15th overall pick has been up and down constantly all season long bouncing from the AHL to the NHL.

Still 20-years-old, the Swedish star has scored 14 goals and 7 assists for 21 points in 23 games in the American Hockey League, and has just 3 points in 11 appearances for the big club.

Further updates will follow when the team released a statement.
