On Saturday night, the Vancouver Canucks headed into Rogers Place in Edmonton with an opportunity to advance to the Western Conference Final for the first time in 13 years, but the Oilers had other plans.
The Oilers came out strong, but the game was tied 1-1 after the first period. Then, the Oilers scored four answered goals to take Game 6 by a score of 5-1 and force Game 7 back in Vancouver on Monday night.
During a TV timeout in the first period, the jumbotron at Rogers Place showed a very familiar face to not only Edmonton Oilers fans but also Vancouver Canucks fans. Wearing an Edmonton Oilers jersey and waving to the fans was former Canucks fan favourite Raffi Torres.
Torres spent four seasons with the Edmonton Oilers between 2003 and 2008 and went to the Stanley Cup Final in 2006. Two years later, Torres joined the Canucks as an unrestricted free agent and became a fan favourite during the 2010-11 season as the Canucks made their third trip to the Stanley Cup Final in franchise history.
In 23 games during the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Torres had seven points and 28 penalty minutes. Most famously, during his time with the Canucks, Torres scored the only goal in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against Boston with 19 seconds remaining in the third period.
Some Canucks fans aren't too happy that Torres was there wearing an Oilers jersey, but it's understandable because he spent the most time with Edmonton compared to any other team during his NHL career.
