The Vancouver Canucks continued their six-game homestand on Tuesday night as for the season game in a row, they hosted a Canadian opponent, this time - the Calgary Flames.
Rick Tocchet's group dug in and thanks to a multi-point efforts from Erik Brannstrom, J.T. Miller and the birthday boy, Elias Pettersson, the Canucks defeated the Flames by a score of 3 to 1.
A very familiar face to Canucks was in attendance at Rogers Arena last night too, that being fan favourite Ryan Kesler, who spent the first ten seasons of his National Hockey League career in Vancouver. Kesler entertained the fans during the game, even chugging back a beer on the jumbotron during the second period.
Well after the final buzzer sounded at Rogers Arena, Ryan Kesler stuck around and as shown in the image below by Josh Elliott-Wolfe, the producer of Canucks Central, he signed autographs and took pictures for a long line of fans that waited.
This was a really nice gesture from Ryan Kesler. After a long night, he could have easily left right away once the game ended, but he stayed behind and showed why he's a fan favourite in the city of Vancouver.
Kesler has been doing some incredible things off the ice in retirement as well. Earlier this month, he participated in the CAN Pro-Am charity tournament in Surrey, which raised over $1 million for the Canucks Autism Network.
Throughout his ten years in Vancouver, the Livonia, Michigan native appeared in 655 games where he registered 393 points (182 goals, 211 assists), 594 penalty minutes and was a plus-25. For what Ryan Kesler has done both on and off the ice in Vancouver, it'll be interesting to see if he's ever considered for the Canucks' Ring of Honour at Rogers Arena.
