Roster Moves: Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin Assigns Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Bains & Raty to AHL Abbotsford
The Vancouver Canucks are making some roster moves to send down, Arshdeep Bains, Aatu Raty and Jonathan Lekkerimaki less than 24 hours after their win against the Calgary Flames
After a brutal loss to the Edmonton Oilers on home ice on Saturday night, the Vancouver Canucks bounced back on Tuesday, defeating the Calgary Flames by a score of 3-1. Elias Pettersson, Erik Brannstrom and J.T. Miller all recorded two points each in the win.
With the off day on Wednesday, the Vancouver Canucks have made some changes to the roster, including assigning a trio down to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
Patrik Allvin assigns three players to Abbotsford Canucks (AHL)
In a post on X on Wednesday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Aatu Raty and Arshdeep Bains have been sent down to the American Hockey League.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Arshdeep Bains, F Jonathan Lekkerimäki and F Aatu Räty have been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL)." The Canucks said.
Lekkerimaki, 20, made his National Hockey League debut last night against Calgary and played in the top-six on a line with J.T. Miller and Pius Suter. The Tullinge, Sweden native drew praise from Rick Tocchet and his teammates following their win last night.
"There's definitely a lot there to like," said Tocchet. "He's a smart player. When he has the puck, there's not a lot of panic. He's just going to get better. There's a lot of stuff to build off."
As for Aatu Raty and Arshdeep Bains, they've both been up and down between the NHL and AHL on numerous occasions this season. In seven NHL games this season, Raty has one assist, four penalty minutes and is a minus-two. Bains has one goal and is a minus-three in eight games with Vancouver.
While some of this might have to do with accruing cap space, as we've seen plenty of times this season, the fact Vancouver has assigned three players to Abbotsford certainly bodes well for Dakota Joshua to return to the lineup tomorrow against the New York Islanders.
Puck drop for tomorrow's game against Bo Horvat and the New York Islanders is set for 7 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
