A former Vancouver Canucks defenseman has landed a multi-year contract extension overseas in the KHL, putting a stop to any possibility of a return to the NHL.
It's been a great season in the KHL for former members of the Vancouver Canucks including Josh Leivo, who leads the league in goals and points, as well as Vitali Kravtsov after he
set two new franchise records on Monday.
Another former Vancouver Canuck, Nikita Tryamkin, returned home to Russia back in 2017 and it doesn't look like he'll be returning to North America anytime soon.
Nikita Tryamkin signs multi-year contract extension in the KHL
Tryamkin is currently in his 12th season with KHL club Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg and in a post on their team website over the weekend, it was announced that he's agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension.
The three-year deal will keep Nikita Tryamkin with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg until May 31st, 2028, which will be the end of his 15th KHL season.
Note: the following is translated from Russian
"Hockey club "Avtomobilist" and defenseman Nikita Tryamkin signed a new contract. The agreement is for three seasons - until May 31, 2028." the club announced.
They added, "We wish Nikita to successfully spend the coming seasons in Avtomobilist, set a new bar for all kinds of records and help the team achieve high goals!
The Yekaterinburg, Russia native was selected in the third round, 66th overall by the Vancouver Canucks during the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and nearly two years later, he made the jump to North America.
Tryamkin joined the Vancouver Canucks following Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg's exit from the Gagarin Cup Playoffs in 2016 and went on to appear in 79 NHL games between the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, registering 11 points (three goals, eight assists), 74 penalty minutes and was a minus-ten.
In 63 games this season, Tryamkin has put up 13 points (three goals, ten assists), 39 penalty minutes and is a plus-four.
We'll have to wait and see where things go when Tryamkin's contract expires in May 2028, but it seems pretty unlikely that he'll return to the Vancouver Canucks or the NHL.
