Allvin indicated that he had no intentions of discussing extensions for his pending free agents when he inked Elias Pettersson's deal unless they were willing to sign a very team-friendly deal. There's been lots of talk lately about Tyler Myers, his emergence under Tocchet's staff, and his future in Vancouver.
The latest market report and contract projection indicated that the veteran could fetch north of $3M for the next two to three years if he made it to free agency. Both he and his agent have made it very clear that Myers' top destination remained the Canucks. The speculation suggested that Myers was discussing a three-year deal worth $9M, but Frank Seravalli updated earlier on Myers and his contract talks.
According to the insider, Myers would be willing to sign a contract in the low 2's if it meant having an extra year on his deal. Making him one of the team's best cost-effective contracts:
Myers, 34, signed a very lucrative contract with the team almost five years back. Although his prime years are past him, he played his best Canucks hockey over the last campaign. Under Tocchet and Foote's guidance, under a new system, Myers found a niche in which he played exceptionally well. Should Allvin do it if he were willing to take a pay cut for an additional year on his next deal?
