It's confirmed for the Canucks: Patrik Allvin's primary target to replace Thatcher Demko identified
Bad news struck the Canucks, as it was announced yesterday from various insiders that Thatcher Demko had reportedly undergone a procedure.
Along with that, as of right now, there is a strong belief that the Canucks' superstar netminder and Vezina nominee wouldn't be a part of the team's training camp forcing
Patrik Allvin to take a different route.
Canucks on the market for a goaltender
NHL writer Kevin Woodley was on Halford and Brough earlier this morning and revealed that Allvin and his acolytes had been working the free agency market for netminders. At this point, he believes they have laid eyes on the Finnish netminder and made him their best option. Standing at 6'2" and weighing around 185 pounds, he definitely falls to Ian Clarke's liking.
Lankinen gained international recognition during the
2019 IIHF World Championship, where he was crucial in leading Finland to a gold medal. His standout performance in the tournament solidified his reputation as a promising goaltender.
Lankinen signed with the
Chicago Blackhawks in 2018 and made his NHL debut during the 2020-2021 season. He quickly established himself as a key player for the Blackhawks, earning a starting role and posting solid numbers in his rookie season. Despite playing for a rebuilding team, Lankinen demonstrated his ability to handle a heavy workload and deliver consistent performances.
Lankinen has been recognized throughout his NHL career for his strong positioning, quick reflexes, and calm demeanour under pressure. His journey from Finland to the NHL and his international success highlight his pedigree as a goaltender with significant potential at the highest level.
The Canucks don't feel the need to rush into things. Two months away from the NHL's season debut, Allvin has to be comfortable coming into camp with
Arturs Silovs and
Jiri Patera.
Does it mean they'll start the season this way? The determining factor will most likely be Demko's recovery and how fast he finds his way into game-shape.
