Jake DeBrusk Opens Up After Finally Scoring First Goal With The Vancouver Canucks
Jake DeBrusk commented post-game on scoring his first goal as a member of the Vancouver Canucks.
It took until the tenth game of the 2024-25 season, but Jake DeBrusk finally go the monkey off his back and score his first goal with the Vancouver Canucks during Saturday's win over the San Jose Sharks.
Late in the third period, the Canucks were entering the Sharks' zone when Quinn Hughes found a wide-open Jake DeBrusk at the top of the circle. DeBrusk then fired home a wrister top corner past Sharks goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead with nearly four minutes remaining in the final frame.
San Jose would go on tie the game at 2-2 with just over a minute to play and when things seemed like they were heading to overtime, Pius Suter stepped up. With 26 seconds left in regulation, Suter scored his second of the game to give the Canucks their fifth win of the 2024-25 campaign.
Jake DeBrusk speaks on scoring his first as a Canuck
After the game, Jake DeBrusk spoke with members of the media and was asked about his first goal as a Vancouver Canuck.
"Yeah, it felt great. Obviously it's been hard not to fixate on it, it's hard not to focus on it. It's one of those things where there's so many things and new things that come with being on a new team and getting used to everything." DeBrusk said.
He added, "I think I'm getting a little more comfortable, but at the same point every game that goes by, you just feel it more and more. You always want to get the first one as fast as possible, so it took me a lot longer than other guys, but I'm happy to help in a win."
The Canucks are hoping now that the monkey is off the back for Jake DeBrusk, he'll be able to help contribute on a more regular basis. DeBrusk and the Canucks will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks.
